When we receive a gift, there’s always excitement what’s inside that gift. Back in preexistence Heavenly Father gave us a gift and we promised to take care of it and guard it with care. We have been warned that Satan will try to deceive us to open the gift prematurely. This sacred gift is our sexual purity.
President Ezra Taft Benson referred to Sexual immorality as the playing sin of this generation. Sexual immorality is the source of more temptations , more buffetings, and more difficulties for the elders of Israel than any other. Joseph F Smith One of the three dangerous sins that would threaten the church within.
Chastity is defined not only as sexual purity but to be morally clean in our thoughts words and actions. The Lord has provided us with standards in the Strength of the youth to safeguard us from Satan’s deceptions as well in the scriptures.
Why is it important to live the Law of Chastity?
1. It is a commandment from the Lord
It has always been emphasized in the scriptures regarding the constant reminder from Heavenly Father through His prophets how important this law is. The Lord made it clear that it is wrong to be sexually immoral.
2. Our body is a temple from the Lord
It always excites us every time we go to the literal house of the Lord. We prepare ourselves to be worthy. Likewise our body is a temple as taught by the Apostle Paul in 1 Corinthians 3:16.
How can we safeguard ourselves?
1. Make a firm commitment to be chaste
If we decided that day to be chaste as well, no matter how deceiving the tactics of Satan are we will never be deceived.
2. Choose well the ones you date
We eventually marry whom we date. We must make sure we share the same standards. We couldn’t afford to fall in love with someone we couldn’t marry at the temple. As Spencer W. Kimball said, right marriage starts with right dating.
3. Guard your thoughts
Elder Ballard said that the devil is a dirty fighter and we must be aware of his tactics. All forms of entertainment and media can be used by Satan for his purposes.
4. Watch what you wear
We are not auctioned or on sale. We must not sell ourselves lower. Remember that we are children of a king. So modesty is indeed a call to be. President Faust reminds young women of a reason to be modest “When strong young priesthood holders see a girl immodestly dressed, most will not want to date her because her standards are not consistent with their eternal perspective. Immodesty in women cheapens their image. It causes embarrassment and loss of respect. It is not likely to win the hand of a worthy, honorable young man who desires to marry a righteous young woman in the temple”
5. Be prayerful
The Lord knows the desires of our hearts. As we seek help through prayer he will give us the strength to withstand temptation.
6. Have a clear picture of the future
All of us see ourselves being married in the temple. We want a happy family with children growing in the Gospel. Families are eternal. We can’t afford to gamble our future by settling for anything less than what Heavenly Father expects us to be.
